The Changing Times

The Changing Times

“(His father and mother had no idea that GOD was behind this, that he was arranging an opportunity against the Philistines. At the time the Philistines lorded it over Israel.)” — (Judges 14:4)

There was a song that went viral some years ago that began with the words: “Parents, listen to your children, we are the future of tomorrow...”
I could not help but remember that song as I reflected on this passage. It highlights how much times have changed.

My generation grew up with limited exposure to the internet and technology, but this generation is growing right in the middle of a technological revolution. Naturally, we may not always see things the same way.

It was true that Samson’s exposure made him view and approach things differently from his parents. The challenges of this generation are peculiar to this generation, and God has equipped them with the skills and capacities needed to navigate them.

While Samson’s parents did not fully understand what God was doing, Samson himself was already moving in alignment with the Spirit of the Lord. As parents, mentors, and guardians, we must teach and guide our children, but we must also trust God to illuminate their paths. Our assignment is not to control every detail of their lives or attempt to relive our own lives through them. Rather, it is to cooperate with God as He unfolds His purpose in and through them.

God may be doing something that is not yet visible on your radar but is already clear on your child’s radar. Guide them prayerfully through the changing times, remembering that though times change, God remains unchanging. Entrust them into His faithful and steady hands.

Reflection
Every generation faces battles unique to its season. Wisdom is knowing how to preserve timeless truths while allowing room for God to work in fresh ways through the next generation. Sometimes what looks unfamiliar to us may be the very path God is using to prepare them for their assignment.

Prayer
Father, grant us wisdom to guide the next generation without stifling Your purpose in their lives. Help us to teach truth with love, discern the times with understanding, and trust You even when we do not fully understand what You are doing. May our children walk in step with Your Spirit and fulfill all You have ordained for them. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Have a fruitful day,
