A Scarce Word

Hook
One of the greatest tragedies in life is not a lack of money but a lack of God's voice. When God stops speaking to a people, purpose begins to suffer.

Scripture
"The boy Samuel was serving GOD under Eli's direction. This was at a time when the revelation of GOD was rarely heard or seen." — 1 Samuel 3:1

"Buy the truth and do not sell it; get wisdom, discipline and understanding." — Proverbs 23:23 (NIV)

Explanation
The Proverbs of Solomon tell us to buy the truth and not sell it. Truth is one commodity that is always worth buying but is never on sale. Think about that for a minute.

When God's truth is revealed, light comes. When light comes, purpose becomes clear, and when purpose is clear, lives are transformed. But when the revelation of God is rarely heard or seen, purpose is trampled upon because people are left to walk in darkness.

The more of God we see, the more of God we know. The more of God we know, the more of Him we experience. And the more we experience Him, the more real and practical He becomes in our everyday lives. That is why we can never afford to disconnect from fellowship with God. Fellowship creates intimacy, and intimacy is what reveals God to us.

We must become intimate with the Word. Read it. Study it. Meditate on it. Observe it and do it. Believe it. Trust it. Depend on it. Live by it. Share it. As the Apostle Paul said, "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly." You cannot treat God's Word like a snack and expect to live a healthy Christian life. The Word is the food the believer lives on.

So I say it again: Buy the truth, and do not sell it.

Application
How valuable is God's Word to you? The answer is revealed by the time you spend with it. Make room every day for God's Word. Feed on it until it begins to shape your thoughts, direct your decisions, and strengthen your walk with God.

Reflection
A scarce Word will always produce shallow believers. But a heart that treasures God's Word will never lack divine direction.

Prayer
Father, create in me a deeper hunger for Your Word. Help me to treasure Your truth above every other voice competing for my attention. Draw me into deeper fellowship with You until Your Word dwells richly in me and is reflected in the way I live. In Jesus' name, Amen.

If someone looked at your daily routine, would they conclude that you truly value God's Word? Why or why not?
