Service Your Secret Place
Everyone needs a safe place—a place to retreat, recharge and regain strength. As believers, our greatest place of refuge is the secret place of fellowship with God.
But don't just have a secret place; service it!
Scripture
"David made good his escape and went to Samuel at Ramah and told him everything Saul had done to him. Then he and Samuel withdrew to the privacy of Naioth." (1 Samuel 19:18)
"He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty." (Psalm 91:1)
Explanation
The secret place is not necessarily a physical location. It is a place of intimacy and fellowship with God.
For Samuel, Naioth was such a place. When David was running from Saul, Samuel took him there for refuge. Even Saul's messengers, and eventually Saul himself, came under the influence of God's Spirit when they entered that environment.
Your secret place is important to your spiritual survival. It is where you renew your strength, receive direction and enjoy God's presence. But it is not somewhere you visit only when trouble comes. It is somewhere you must continually dwell.
Application
Service your secret place! Maintain constant fellowship with God through prayer, studying His Word, engaging the Holy Spirit and fellowshipping with other believers.
Don't allow the busyness of life to rob you of your time with God. Don't wait until trouble comes before seeking His presence.
Reflection
Are you maintaining your secret place or only visiting when you need something from God?
Don't just run to God when you are in trouble. Make His presence your permanent dwelling place.
Prayer
Father, help me to cultivate and maintain my secret place. Deliver me from distractions and teach me to enjoy consistent fellowship with You. May I continually draw strength and direction from Your presence. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Discussion Question
What practical steps can you take to maintain consistent fellowship with God amid life's distractions?
Have a fruitful day.
