Confidence in prayer

Confidence in prayer

"And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us" (1John.5.14)

Confidence toward God in the place of prayer is very important. Paul tells us in the Book of Hebrew to not cast away our confidence for it has a great recompense of reward.

"Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward." (Heb.10.35)

So what the devil tries to do is rob you of your confidence. He does this by throwing jabs of guilt and self-condemnation. But as you may know, guilt is a worthless emotion, valid nonetheless.

Our text says "This is the confidence that we have in him". Our confidence is not in ourselves nor is it in our righteousness but in Christ alone. In Christ, we are made the righteousness of God (see 2 Cor:5:21) And this confidence assures us that when we ask anything in accordance with his word which is his will he hears us.

"If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you." (John.15.7)

If he hears us, then we know that he will answer.

"And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him." (1John.5.15)

Come boldly to the throne of grace and find help in time of need is the way the Apostle Paul concludes the matter.

"Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." (Heb.4.16)

Have a great day today,
