Be neighbourly
Be neighbourly
"No murder. No Adultery. No stealing. No lies about your neighbor. (Exod.20.13 -16 MSG )
As I read through these scriptures, the story of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10 comes to mind. Jesus telling the story, showed us that it was not the one closest to man but the one who saw to the recovery of the injured man that was his neighbour.
"Looking for a loophole, he asked, "And just how would you define "neighbor'?" "Jesus answered by telling a story. "There was once a man traveling from Jerusalem to Jericho. On the way he was attacked by robbers. They took his clothes, beat him up, and went off leaving him half-dead. Luckily, a priest was on his way down the same road, but when he saw him he angled across to the other side. Then a Levite religious man showed up; he also avoided the injured man. "A Samaritan traveling the road came on him. When he saw the man's condition, his heart went out to him." (Luke.10.29 -33)
"What do you think? Which of the three became a neighbor to the man attacked by robbers?" "The one who treated him kindly," the religion scholar responded. Jesus said, "Go and do the same." (Lk. 10.36-37)
One who is neighbourly will not murder, will not commit adultery, will not steal and will not lie to his neighbours. And we noticed from the text that a priest came by, but angled himself away from the injured man, neither did a Levite attend to him. So being a Christian does not guarantee that you are neighbourly even though it should because Jesus said go and do the same. Jesus expects us to be good neighbours.
How good neighbourly are you? Can others count on you to be a good neighbour? Can God count on you to be used as a good neighbour to reach those He needs to reach. If the Good Samaritan had not attended to the man that was beaten and left for death, the man would have died. Can God trust you to resuscitate a dying world, heal a sick world and give hope to the hopeless? Be a good neighbour...
Good day,
Have a great day today,
