Pay the devil no attention
Pay the devil no attention
"Listen carefully to everything I tell you. Don't pay attention to other gods--don't so much as mention their names." [Exod.23.13]
We tend to give too much credit to the devil. When things happen that we do not think God has done, we are quick to attribute this to the devil. But in our text today, God instructs us to first listen carefully to everything He tells us, and then He says we should not pay attention to other gods, to the point that we're not to even mention their names.
Why do we mention their names? I think it's because we have not done the first part very well. If we listen carefully to everything God tells us, we will not even have any space left for other gods. The Apostlic Paul says it this way, "Let the word of God dwell richly in you". The Psalm says, "Your word have I hidden in my heart that I may not sin against You"
"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. (Col.3.16 KJV)
Let God's word dwell richly in you. What the Apostle Paul was saying was that the word of God should make your heart home. Let it become your focus and when it is, you will learn that God is at the center of it all. That there is really nothing the devil and his cohort can do except God allows them. Look at the story of Job, one thing we learn from it was that the devil had to ask permission before he could afflicted Job. Pay the devil no might. Keep your focus of God and on His word.
Good day,
Have a great day today,
