The gospel of sensationalism

The gospel of sensationalism

"That same day Nadab and Abihu, Aaron's sons, took their censers, put hot coals and incense in them, and offered "strange" fire to GOD-something GOD had not commanded. Fire blazed out from GOD and consumed them--they died in GOD's presence." (Lev.10.1 - 2)

The children of Aaron, Nadab and Abihu had seen a spectacular display of the presence of God. They saw how their father had entered the Tent of Meeting and had made a sacrifice that God had consumed with fire causing the people to cheer.

"Fire blazed out from GOD and consumed the Whole-Burnt-Offering and the fat pieces on the Altar. When all the people saw it happen they cheered loudly and then fell down, bowing in reverence." (Lev.9.24)

This cheers from the people made Nadab and Abihu offer what the Bible referred to as "strange" fire. The Bible says Strange fire,  is something that God had not commanded. And as a result, they were both consumed by fire. The crave for the praises of men, the cheer from the people so enticed them to do what God had not commanded. It reminds me of the seven sons of Sceva in the book of Acts 19.14-17 and how the demon possessed man tore at them.

"it was soon news all over Ephesus among both Jews and Greeks. The realization spread that God was in and behind this. Curiosity about Paul developed into reverence for the Master Jesus." (Acts.19.17)

God was behind what Paul did. He didn't do it for show.

What the Bible called strange fire I call the gospel of sensationalism. We want to see some strange acts happening. Jesus called it, "seeking after a sign"

"But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: (Matt.12.39)

This is one reason some people run from pillar to post just so they get sensationalized. And why a lot of men of God have gotten into trouble. If God did not command it, it is strange fire.

Good day,
Have a great day today,
