Leaders show the way 

"Let GOD, the God of the spirits of everyone living, set a man over this community (Num.27.16) 

God told Moses that he was going to die, but Moses was more concerned with who will lead the children of Israel so that they are not left without a leader. He says to God: 

"Let GOD, the God of the spirits of everyone living, set a man over this community" (Num.27.16) 

And his discussion reveals to us one of the major qualities of a leader: one who shows the way ahead. In other words, a leader must be visionary - the ability to see the future with the mind's eye. 

"To lead them, to show the way ahead and bring them back home so GOD's community will not be like sheep without a shepherd." (Num.27.17) 

To show the way ahead: Are you a leader? Then show the way. You must lead from the front but also know how to guide them back home. 

It also reveals that the leader must be a "shepherd," meaning one is able to feed, protect, guide, and direct. Hence, bring them back home. In other words, he has the ability to take the "flock" out, directing them to where the pasture is green and the water is still, but also able to see them through the valley of the shadow of death.

Birthright for sale

Birth rights for sale  "One day Jacob was cooking a stew. Esau came in from the field, starved. Esau said to Jacob, "Give me some of that red stew--I'm starved!" That's how he came to be called Edom (Red). Jacob said, "Make me a trade: my stew for your rights as the firstborn." Esau said, "I'm starving! What good is a birthright if I'm dead?" Jacob said, "First, swear to me." And he did it. On oath Esau traded away his rights as the firstborn." (Gen.25.29-33).  Life has taught us to trade what we have for what we want or need.
