Get Them Inside Your Children
Get Them Inside Your Children
"And then get them inside your children. Talk about them wherever you are—sitting at home or walking in the street; talk about them from the time you get up in the morning to when you fall into bed at night." (Deuteronomy 6:7)
Family was always God’s idea. Before there was ever a church, there was the family. In fact, when you think about it, the church itself is God’s family. That’s why His instructions include not just individuals but families. In the previous verse, God tells us to write His Word on our hearts, and now He tells us to get that Word inside our children.
Children have always been part of God’s plan. Speaking of Abraham, God said:
"For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment; that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which He hath spoken of him." (Genesis 18:19 KJV)
God trusted Abraham because He knew Abraham would pass on His Word to the next generation. That’s the same expectation God has of us today.
In our text, God shows us how to get His Word inside our children—by talking about it continually. When you’re at home, on the road, waking up in the morning, or going to bed at night—fill your conversations with His truth. Let the Word of God become the natural rhythm of family life. Let your “family gist” include Bible stories, godly values, and lessons from Scripture.
This daily meditation is not just about religion—it’s a success principle. Psalm 1 reminds us that the person who meditates on the Word day and night will prosper in all they do. The same applies to our children. When we fill their hearts and minds with God’s Word, we’re setting them up for lasting success—success that goes beyond academics or wealth.
We want to give our children the best education, and that’s good. But God says the best foundation for success is His Word. So, more than anything else—get the Word inside your children.
Reflection:
Are your daily conversations with your children helping them know God more deeply?
Prayer:
Lord, help me to make Your Word the heartbeat of my home. Teach me to speak it naturally, live it genuinely, and pass it faithfully to my children. Amen.
Have a fruitful day,
