Fix the Foundation

Fix the Foundation

“They’re a vine that comes right out of Sodom, who they are is rooted in Gomorrah; Their grapes are poison grapes, their grape-clusters bitter.” (Deuteronomy 32:32)

The beginning of anything matters. A tree is only as strong as its roots. When the roots are deep and firm, the tree is nourished, sustained, and able to grow. But when the foundation is faulty, collapse becomes inevitable. Scripture asks a sobering question: “If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (see Ps. 11.3)

In our text, Moses uses the imagery of a vine to describe the spiritual condition of Israel. Though they bore the name of God’s people, their roots were traced to Sodom and Gomorrah—symbols of corruption and rebellion. The result was predictable: poisoned fruit and bitter clusters. What a powerful lesson—your root always determines your fruit.

Jesus, however, presents a striking contrast.“

I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.” (John 15:1)

By calling Himself the true vine, Jesus reveals that there are other vines that appear life-giving but are not. Only those who draw life from Him can produce healthy fruit. If your stem is connected to the true vine, your life will not yield poison or bitterness.

This season offers us an opportunity to fix the foundation—to examine our roots and ensure we are firmly connected to Christ, the true vine whose birth we celebrate today. If you are not yet connected, the invitation is open. If you are already connected, rejoice and remain in Him.

Merry Christmas to you and your family, and a happy New Year in advance. This Christmas, make sure you are connected to the True Vine.

Brief Reflection

Spiritual fruit is never accidental; it is the product of connection. When our roots are misplaced, bitterness follows. When our lives are anchored in Christ, righteousness, peace, and joy flow naturally. This Christmas, the greatest gift is not what we receive, but where we are rooted.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank You for Jesus, the true vine. Search our hearts and reveal any faulty foundations. Disconnect us from every false source of life and firmly root us in Christ. May our lives bear fruit that brings glory to Your name. As we celebrate this season, keep us abiding in You, now and always. Amen.

Have a fruitful day,
