Listen to the Voice of God

Listen to the Voice of God

"Listen to the Voice of GOD, your God. Keep his commandments and regulations that I'm commanding you today." (Deut. 27:10)

Be careful whose voice you allow to shape your life. Jesus, speaking about the sheep, did not say they know His word—He said they know His voice. This is important because God’s word can be quoted by anyone: a stranger, a hireling, or even the devil. At the temptation of Jesus, the enemy quoted Scripture, but Jesus was not deceived because the voice behind the words was not the Father’s.

"To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out." (John 10:3 KJV)

The voice of God is distinct from the words of God. If you are not familiar with His voice, anyone can manipulate His word to mislead you. Picture the enemy speaking the word of God at Jesus—yet Jesus immediately recognized, “This may be God’s word, but it is not God’s voice.”

Samuel heard the word of God but did not recognize the voice of God until Eli guided him. Familiarity with God’s voice is what keeps us from error and anchors us in truth. It can be the difference between life and death, success and failure, direction and confusion.

Our text urges us: “Listen to the Voice of God.”

Whose voice are you truly listening to?

Reflection

God still speaks, but only those who walk closely with Him can discern His voice above the noise. The world is filled with many voices—fear, pressure, culture, human opinions, and even misinterpreted Scripture. But when you intentionally stay close to God in prayer, in worship, and in obedience, His voice becomes unmistakable. The closer the sheep is to the Shepherd, the clearer the voice becomes.

Prayer

Father, teach me to know Your voice above every other voice. Silence every noise that seeks to distract or mislead me. Draw me closer to You so that Your whisper becomes my confidence and Your leading becomes my path. Help me walk in obedience to Your commands and in sensitivity to Your voice. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Have a fruitful day,
