A Season of Rest
A Season of Rest
“So Joshua took the entire land, just as the LORD had instructed Moses, and Joshua gave it as an inheritance to Israel according to their tribal divisions. Then the land had rest from war.” (Joshua 11:23)
A season of rest is coming—hold on just a little longer. Notice that Israel did not enter into rest until the whole land was taken. There was no rest before the battle was finished; victory preceded rest. Joshua and the people had to confront every opposition before they could enjoy peace.
For us as New Testament believers, the journey is different yet deeply connected. Our victory has already been secured through the finished work of Christ on the cross. Therefore, our responsibility is not to fight for victory, but to believe in it and rest in what Christ has accomplished. To enter this rest is simply to trust—fully and without reservation.
Scripture reminds us that the promise of rest is still available, but it must be received with faith: “
Now God has offered us the same promise of entering his rest, so we must be careful not to disqualify ourselves.” (Hebrews 4:1)
The promise still stands. Some entered into it, like Joshua and Israel, while others in the wilderness failed—not because the promise was withdrawn, but because it was not believed. Faith is the doorway into rest.
“For we have heard the Good News, just as they did. But the message they heard was of no value to them, because they did not share the faith of those who obeyed.” (Hebrews 4:2)
The question remains: will you believe and enter?
Reflection
Rest is not the absence of challenges; it is the assurance that the victory is already settled. When we choose faith over fear and trust over striving, we step into God’s promised rest—even in the midst of life’s battles.
Prayer
Father, thank You for the promise of rest You have made available to us through Christ. Help me to trust fully in the finished work of the cross and not rely on my own strength. Where doubt has delayed my rest, replace it with faith. I choose to believe Your Word and enter into the rest You have prepared for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Have a fruitful day
