Delays Are Not Denials

Delays Are Not Denials

“Because the sons of Joseph had become two tribes—Manasseh and Ephraim—they gave no allotment to the Levites, but gave them cities to live in, with pasture lands for their flocks and herds.” (Joshua 14:4)

Delays are not denials. God knows how to course-correct our journeys so they align perfectly with His original plan for our lives. What looks like a setback to us is often a setup in God’s hands.

We remember the story of Jacob—how he was deceived into marrying Leah instead of Rachel, the woman he truly loved. That single act appeared to delay his destiny by seven years. When he finally married Rachel, there was yet another delay: she could not bear children for a long time. Humanly speaking, everything seemed out of order.

Had Jacob married Rachel as planned, Joseph would have been the firstborn and naturally entitled to the double portion. But God does not panic over delays. What He has ordained cannot be canceled by human schemes. Though the process was long and painful, God’s purpose for Joseph was never denied.

In our text, we see God’s divine correction in full display. Though Joseph was no longer alive, the Bible says his sons became two tribes. The double portion intended for Joseph completed its full circle—not by birth order, but by divine design. Manasseh and Ephraim were no longer just sons; they were tribes, equal in rank and inheritance with their uncles. What looked like a loss became a greater gain.

People may work against you. Circumstances may seem unfair. Timelines may shift. But if you remain faithful to God, He knows how to work all things according to the counsel of His will. What appears delayed will arrive right on time—complete, restored, and multiplied.

Delays are not denials. God is never late.

Reflection
Is there something in your life that feels overdue—promises, prayers, expectations? This passage reminds us that God’s purposes are not bound by human timing or human error. Even when the journey is longer than expected, God is still moving you toward the fullness of His plan. Trust the process. Trust the timing. Trust God.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding me that Your plans for my life are sure and unshakable. When delays discourage me and the journey feels long, help me to trust Your timing and wisdom. Heal my heart from disappointment and strengthen my faith to wait well. I surrender my expectations to You and choose to believe that what You have promised, You will surely bring to pass—at the right time and in the right way. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Have a fruitful day
