God's Extravagant Blessings

God’s Extravagant Blessings

"The people of Joseph spoke to Joshua: ‘Why have you given us only one allotment and one portion for an inheritance, since we are a numerous people and the LORD has blessed us abundantly?’" (Joshua 17:14)

The sons of Joseph teach us a powerful lesson about perspective and confidence in God’s blessings. Exposure matters in life. What we see, experience, and understand shapes how we think and what we believe is possible.

Manasseh and Ephraim did not grow up like their uncles. They were raised in Egypt in a position of influence because of their father Joseph. They had seen administration, abundance, and authority up close. That upbringing gave them a different mindset. They were not timid about increase; they were conscious of growth. They recognized that God had blessed them extravagantly—and they were bold enough to say so.

When they came to Joshua, they asked, “Why have you given us only one share?” They were not being arrogant; they were being aware. Aware of their growth. Aware of God’s hand upon them. Aware that their present allocation did not match their increase.

Contrast this with the elder brother in the story of the prodigal son. His father told him, “All that I have is yours.” Yet he never asked—not even for a young goat to celebrate with his friends (Luke 15:29). Though he lived in abundance, he thought like a servant rather than a son.

Many believers live this way today. God has blessed us extravagantly in Christ. As Paul declares, “Blessed be God… who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ” (Ephesians 1:3). Yet we sometimes settle for less because we do not recognize what belongs to us.

The sons of Joseph understood increase and placed a demand on it. They stepped forward as sons, not beggars. They did not deny the blessing—they declared it.

God’s blessings upon your life are not meager or accidental. They are intentional and abundant. The question is: Do you see them? And are you willing to step into them?

It is an extravagant blessing. Take hold of yours.

Reflection
Am I living with the mindset of a son or a servant?
Do I truly believe that God has blessed me abundantly in Christ?
Have I settled for less because of fear, small thinking, or comparison?
Growth requires recognition. Increase demands boldness. When we understand our identity in Christ, we stop shrinking and start stepping forward in faith.

Prayer
Father, thank You for Your extravagant blessings upon my life. Open my eyes to see all that You have made available to me in Christ. Deliver me from small thinking and a servant mentality. Give me the boldness of a son, the confidence to step into increase, and the wisdom to steward every blessing You have given me. Help me to recognize Your hand upon my life and to walk fully in Your purpose. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Have a fruitful day
