Worn Out by Nagging
Worn Out by Nagging
"But she turned on the tears all the seven days of the feast. On the seventh day, worn out by her nagging, he told her. Then she went and told it to her people." (Judges. 14:17)
Words are powerful. Scripture reminds us that life and death are in the power of the tongue. Words can build courage, strengthen faith, heal wounds, and inspire hope. But words can also discourage, weaken resolve, and drain the spirit.
Job understood this when he said:
"How forcible are right words!" (Job 6:25)
In our text, Samson became worn out by constant pressure and nagging. To be worn out means to become exhausted, drained, and emotionally weakened. Repeated negative words and persistent pressure have a way of wearing down even the strongest people. What we constantly hear eventually begins to shape our thoughts, emotions, and actions.
That is why we must guard what enters our spirit. The Bible says faith comes by hearing and hearing the Word of God. In the same way, fear, doubt, and discouragement can also grow through repeated negative voices. If you constantly listen to words of defeat, criticism, or hopelessness, they will slowly affect your confidence and outlook.
This is why positive self-talk and godly encouragement are important. David spoke to himself in difficult moments, saying, “Why are you cast down, O my soul? Put your hope in God.” He refused to allow despair to take root in his spirit.
You may not always control what people say around you, but you can control what you allow to settle in your heart. Refuse to meditate on destructive words. Surround yourself with truth, encouragement, and the promises of God. Let words that strengthen your faith remain louder than voices trying to wear you down.
Reflection
What voices have been shaping your spirit lately? Are they building your faith or draining your strength? Be intentional about what you repeatedly listen to, because whatever consistently enters your ears will eventually influence your heart. Choose words that give life.
Prayer
Lord, help me to guard my heart against words that weaken my faith and drain my spirit. Fill my mind with Your truth and surround me with voices that encourage and strengthen me. Teach me to speak life over myself and others, and help me not to be worn out by negativity or discouragement. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Have a fruitful day,
