The Power of A Made-Up Mind
The Power of a Made-Up Mind
Hook
Many people have good intentions, big dreams, and noble goals. They want to start a business, write a book, pursue a calling, or deepen their walk with God. Yet many never move beyond wishing because they lack one crucial ingredient: a made-up mind.
Scripture
"So when Naomi saw that Ruth had made up her mind to go with her, she stopped urging her." — Ruth 1:18 (NLT)
Explanation
One of the most powerful forces in life is a made-up mind. When a person truly settles a matter in their heart, obstacles become challenges to overcome rather than excuses to quit.
Ruth had every reason to turn back. Her future was uncertain. She was leaving her homeland, her people, and everything familiar. Yet she made a decision and refused to be swayed. Her commitment was so evident that Naomi could see it. The Bible says, "Naomi saw that Ruth had made up her mind."
A made-up mind produces perseverance. It keeps you moving when circumstances are unfavorable and when others cannot understand your choices. God honors conviction. James teaches that a double-minded person is unstable and should not expect to receive from the Lord. Faith requires commitment, and commitment requires a made-up mind.
History is filled with people who achieved great things not because the path was easy, but because they refused to quit. Every worthwhile accomplishment involves risk, sacrifice, and persistence.
Application
What has God placed in your heart to do?
Have you allowed fear, setbacks, criticism, or uncertainty to weaken your resolve? If so, it's time to settle the matter. Decide what God has called you to do and commit to it wholeheartedly.
When your mind is made up, people will notice your conviction. Some may support you, others may not. But your determination will carry you through seasons when encouragement is scarce.
Make up your mind, trust God, and follow through.
Reflection
A wavering heart produces hesitation, but a made-up mind produces progress. Ruth's future changed the moment she decided not to turn back. Often, breakthrough begins when we stop debating and start committing.
Prayer
Father, give me the courage to stand firm in the decisions You have placed before me. Remove doubt, fear, and indecision from my heart. Help me to remain steadfast when challenges arise and to trust You even when the future is unclear. May my faith be marked by conviction and perseverance. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Discussion Question
What is one area of your life where God is calling you to stop wavering, make up your mind, and move forward in faith?
