Nurse the Future

Nurse the Future

Hook
The future rarely announces itself. It often arrives quietly—small, ordinary, and easy to overlook. Those who shape tomorrow are usually the ones who recognize it while everyone else sees only today.

Scripture

"Naomi took the baby and held him in her arms, cuddling him, cooing over him, waiting on him hand and foot... They named him Obed. He became the father of Jesse, the father of David." (Ruth 4:16–17 MSG)

Explanation
To the people around Naomi, Obed was simply a newborn child. But heaven saw something much greater. Hidden in that baby's future was Jesse, King David, and ultimately Jesus Christ, the Redeemer of the world.

By caring for Obed, Naomi was unknowingly nurturing generations yet unborn. She embraced the future before it became obvious. She didn't wait until Obed was a kingmaker or a man of influence. She invested in him while he was still helpless and dependent.

The future almost never arrives looking like the future. It often comes disguised as a seed, a child, an idea, a burden, or a small opportunity. It takes spiritual insight and foresight to recognize what God is placing in your hands today.

Application
What has God entrusted to you that seems small or insignificant? A dream? A business idea? A ministry? A relationship? A child?

Don't neglect today's "little things" because they may carry tomorrow's greatness.

It's interesting how people rush to clear drainage channels after the floods have already overwhelmed their communities. The wiser time to prepare was before the rains came. In the same way, the best preparation for tomorrow begins today. Nurse your dreams while they are still fragile. Develop your gifts before opportunity knocks. Invest in your children while they are still teachable. The future rewards those who prepare ahead of time.

Reflection
The future you desire is being shaped by what you are nurturing today. What you ignore may never reach its God-given potential, but what you faithfully care for can become a blessing for generations.

Prayer
Father, give me the wisdom to recognize the future You have placed in my hands. Help me to faithfully nurture every dream, opportunity, and assignment You have entrusted to me. May I never despise small beginnings but prepare diligently for the future You have ordained. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Discussion Question
What "small beginning" has God placed in your hands today that deserves more intentional care and investment for tomorrow?

Have a fruitful day,
