God Takes Over
God Takes Over
Hook
Sometimes we mistake a disappointing outcome for God’s defeat. We prayed, believed, expected one thing—and something completely different happened. But remember: your outcome is not evidence that God has lost His power.
Scripture
“Next morning when the citizens of Ashdod got up, they were shocked to find Dagon toppled from his place, flat on his face before the Chest of GOD. They picked him up and put him back where he belonged.” (1 Samuel 5:3)
Explanation
Israel had lost a battle, but God had not lost the battle. The Ark of the Covenant had been captured, but God Himself had not been captured.
The Philistines carried the Ark into the temple of Dagon, perhaps thinking they had placed Israel’s God under the authority of their god. But the next morning, Dagon was lying face down before the Ark.
God did not need an Israelite soldier there to defend Him. He did not need Israel’s army to prove that He was still God. God is God by Himself.
When God steps into a situation, He doesn't take sides—He takes over. What looks like defeat may simply be a stage upon which God is about to reveal that He is still in charge.
Application
Don't judge God's power by your present outcome.
You may have lost an opportunity, experienced a disappointment, or watched something you prayed for go in another direction. That does not mean God has failed.
Let God be God in your life. Stop trying to control every outcome and start trusting His sovereignty.
When God takes over, He can turn the very place that looked like defeat into a place where His power is revealed.
Reflection
What situation in your life have you mistaken for God's defeat?
Perhaps God is saying, “I am still in charge. Let Me take over.”
Prayer
Lord Jesus, I surrender my life and my circumstances to You. Where I have tried to control things, help me to let You take over. Even when I cannot understand the outcome, help me trust that You are still God and still in control. Take over my life, Lord Jesus, and let Your will be done. Amen.
Discussion Question
What area of your life do you need to surrender and allow God to take over?
Have a fruitful day.
