Stay Humble
The way up is down!
If you want God to lift you high, learn to stay humble. Pride makes you stand tall in your own eyes, but humility teaches you when to duck.
Scripture
“Suddenly Saul threw the spear, thinking, ‘I'll nail David to the wall.’ David ducked, and the spear missed. This happened twice.” (1 Samuel 18:11 MSG)
Explanation
David had killed Goliath, defeated Israel’s enemies, and earned the admiration of the people. He was also anointed to become Israel’s next king. He had every reason to feel important, yet he remained humble.
When Saul threw his spear at him, David ducked. He refused to let his victories, position, or future destiny fill him with pride.
It has been said that we have three days on earth: yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Each day presents an opportunity to choose humility. Yesterday’s achievements must not make us proud, today’s success must not get into our heads, and tomorrow’s expectations must not make us look down on others.
The Bible says, “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time” (1 Peter 5:6 KJV).
If you want to go up, learn to bow down. David understood that no destination was worth reaching if God was not going with him.
Application
* Stay humble in your success. Your achievements are not an excuse to look down on others.
* Stay humble in your position. Whether you are a leader, a professional, or a minister, remember that your position is a responsibility, not a reason for pride.
* Stay humble while waiting for your future. Knowing what God has promised you does not give you permission to become arrogant today.
Reflection
Am I becoming proud because of what God has done through me, or am I becoming more humble? Remember, God does not need your pride to promote you. The higher you want to go, the lower you must be willing to bow.
Prayer
Father, deliver me from pride and arrogance. Help me remain humble in my achievements, faithful in my present position, and patient as I await Your promises. May my life always reflect Your grace, and may I never go where You are not leading me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Discussion Question
What practical steps can you take to remain humble when you experience success, receive recognition, or are promoted to a higher position?
Have a fruitful day.
