Show Evidence
Show Evidence
Don't let what you cannot do stop you from doing what you can.
Sometimes, opportunities are not lost because we lack the ability to seize them, but because we underestimate what we have to offer. We focus so much on what we don't have that we fail to put to work what we already have. Stop selling yourself short. Show evidence of what you can do!
Scripture
"When the servants reported David's response to Saul, he told them to tell David this: 'The king isn't expecting any money from you; only this: Go kill a hundred Philistines and bring evidence of your vengeance on the king's behalf. Avenge the king on his enemies.' (Saul expected David to be killed in action.)"
(1 Samuel 18:23)
Explanation
Everything isn't about money. Sometimes, what is required is evidence of your ability, commitment and willingness to stretch yourself.
This was practically what Saul's servant communicated to David. Earlier, David had missed the opportunity of marrying Saul's first daughter because he considered himself unworthy of becoming the king's son-in-law. He didn't think he had anything worthwhile to offer.
Now, Saul demanded a hundred Philistine foreskins as the bride price, expecting that David would be killed in the process. But what David was required to do was within his reach. He only needed to take the risk and stretch himself.
There is a lesson here. Don't allow your perception of your limitations to keep you from attempting what is within your capacity.
God is not asking you to do what you cannot do. He expects you to respond to what He has made available to you. Jesus said, "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled" (Matthew 5:6). Jeremiah also tells us that we will find God when we seek Him with all our hearts (Jeremiah 29:13).
The emphasis is on the heart, the hunger and the willingness to pursue.
God responds to a heart that genuinely seeks Him. Don't just talk about your desire; let your actions provide the evidence.
Application
Stop disqualifying yourself before you even make an attempt. Don't allow what you lack to prevent you from using what you have.
If you want to grow, take the necessary steps. If you want to know God more, invest time in His Word and in prayer. If you want to make an impact, put your gifts and abilities to work.
Don't leave undone what you can do because of what you cannot do.
Do your part. Stretch yourself. Take the necessary steps. Do what you can, and trust God to do what only He can do.
Reflection
Am I making excuses because of what I lack, while neglecting what I already have?
What evidence can I show of my commitment to the things I say I desire?
Prayer
Father, deliver me from the fear of failure and the limitations I have placed on myself. Help me to recognise and maximise what You have placed within my reach. Give me the courage to stretch myself, take action and pursue You wholeheartedly. May my life provide evidence of my faith and commitment. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Discussion Question
What is one thing you have been postponing because you feel you lack what it takes, and what practical step can you take today to move forward?
Have a fruitful day.
